Streamlining Tech for Travel - My Shift to Minimalism

less than 1 minute read

After travelling most of my life, I have been on a crusade to reduce my tech baggage. There was a time when I would have multiple laptops, games, and a litany of cables. International converters further complicated this during times of 110/220, requiring separate blocks.

Like clothing, I overpacked what was actually used and needed. This trip, I decided to attempt just a tablet with a keyboard. I found that with Android and work MDM profiles, it was easy enough — additionally, turning off my work profile limited work notifications on PTO.

In my bag was:

  • Samsung S9 Tab Ultra
  • Samsung S9 Tab Ultra Bookcover Slim
  • Samsung Fold 6
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch
  • Lencent Mini 20W International Adapater
  • GKEAPZA USB-C Hub
  • Anker 2-in-1 USB C to USB C Cable 140W
  • Elebase Magnetic Charger Adapter for Galaxy Watch
  • 8bitdo SN30

This replaced a cornucopia of stuff I used to carry. As tech becomes more flexible, the devices become multipurpose and easy enough to use if one is at the hotel.

The shortcomings are that the tablet is worthless without a desk due to its lack of “lap-ability;” otherwise, it encourages me to enjoy PTO rather than work!
