Why stop a geeky tradition?! Here is 2008’s travel graphs. This year I did hit the 2 full trips around the Earth. I am not sure what 2009 holds, but I had a 30% increase in travel and I only have 17% to go before it is a full 100. Here is last years stats: Travel Days for 2007

Or in other words I am shortsighted. I watched outside the CRJ700 as Tucson appeared. Flying into Tucson I was surprised they had finally finished the renovations of the airport and how I felt. Being the blogging type I figured it a safe bet that I had posted something as I left…sure enough… Sometimes when we leave a place we know it isn’t forever. Yet you still look around with deep breath and soak it in. What is “it” that we need to soak?I had that feeling today as I boarded in Tucson. I knew that I might be back but this time would be the last of this era. This was the last of a time in my life, a period of great testing. I felt this one other time in Shreveport so I know it well. The same yearn for one last look. One last breath. One last freeze frame of all the people in the room. Some people mistake this feeling by associating it with a place. They misunderstand that the place is little more than a collection of people and emotions. The scenery is picture worthy, but it is the person looking at it with you that will cement your love of it. There are many more places for me to go. I look forward to bottling that moment up and placing it on my shelf of life. Take that last deep breath and seal it tightly for this is all you will have of this moment, this place, this time. ...

This morning with my lungs pressed up against the cool morning air I ran through the country. Past the cows in the pasture and up the hill where the horses drink from the pond. This backdrop is like a cheesy background you find draped against people’s computer screens to make them forget the cube they live in. Today’s world allows for me to pound my feet against Country Road 45 and tomorrow race to the Pentagon like an ant for the peanut butter sandwich dropped on a playground. Why on Earth would I trade the beauty of these stars for the twinkle of the skyscraper? ...

As we progress down the road of technological advance we must learn to remove from our minds the grasps of time and space. It is in the advancement of technology that both constraints are no longer at the mercy of our lives. I have had the pleasure of getting to know a young lady in Romania who I have since shown parts of Washington DC this trip via Skype and a webcam. Did I mention this was via a cellphone card while riding back with a coworker? At the most superficial level this seems like an ample use of technology. Yet, we must divulge this moment as did Mr. Bell as he sent the first spurts across the ocean to another part of the world. The mere possibility of knowledge share at this level changed our entire world. ...
