Ring Doorbell Security

The Ring Doorbell has been invaluable as we travel the world. The reactions of people are often times pretty funny as the doorbell they just pressed begins talking to them and asking them to do some action in our absence. Even over our very low-bandwidth WiMax link it is usable. The most annoying part of the device, until now, is that our dog Bentley goes crazy when the device rings the multitude of devices. Even when we are abroad if he hears the phone notification he goes ballistic instinctively knowing someone is in his yardfrom a few hundred/thousand miles away. ...

Contents 1 Laptop 2 Tablet 3 Security 4 Power on the Go 5 Creature Comforts 6 Share this: 65,000 km a month is my current travel routine with my international engineering firm, Spec Ops Technology. In my past there was formidable travel, but it always was within the continental US which removed some of the complexities in life. With the crossing of borders the type of equipment you need changes dramatically. Below are some of my favorite items to carry that have saved me numerous times. Tools of the Connected Geek Trade

As we move up the food chain of life, our free-time becomes more and more precious. There are only so many hours in the day and my generation utilizes them to the fullest. Geeks, Charity, and the impact of Reddit

When Digg migrated to Microsoft for advertising a few years ago, I took a personal stand and left. I was desperate to find a home on the internet again and came across reddit.com The site spoke to me! Clean, unobtrusive, geeky, and best of all…open source. To all who joined this year…thank you…the threads below epitomize your willingness to join us in being Good Geeks. We often get a bad wrap, but for the most part we are a cheerful crowd. Here is some proof from 2010, but this isn’t even close to being the full list. Feel free to leave me comments here or on the intertubes where you found this: ...

With the departure from Boeing and some personal days to take care of, it was decided to join in on No Shave November. Becca was on board as she always liked me a little scruffy. I did what any man did to prepare for a beard…nothing…I have to admit it is tough work growing a beard. Between the scratching and avoiding the “about to go hunting” or “I drive a white van with no windows” look, I found myself questioning the task at hand. In the end it grew thick and manly. Had I dared to wear flannel, there is a good chance I would have been drafted into Smokey Bears forest protection team. ...
