The cracks are too numerous to skip them as a child would. To attempt would be feeble and your poor mothers back would be broken in half a city block. Oscar and I mind less for the practice and walk along the city streets unhindered by superstition. Passing along the road, the world seems humored by the site of a fuzzy haired young man and his wiener dog going for an evening stroll. The hardest of faces are broken into a slighted smile as Oscar looks up to inspect them.

Rosy walk lights give way the passing of cars and the crowd that gather quickly focus on the little dog. My little pooch is the city example of a cactus, soaking up the monsoon rain of attention. In a town that neglects to share a smile and attention he soaks it in savoring what is surely a rare occurrence. There are times where small children and grown captains of industry forget their steady pace and the change of walk allowance as they pet behind his ears. There is such starvation of emotion that they expend it on the little hound.

My little ambassador, he spreads the glee of his owner that is hidden behind the 2 day old shave and iPod headphones. Like all good sheep, I meld into the exterior of this town and hide behind nothingness. It is easier to deny the existence of my smiles and laughter than to standout like the monuments speckled across the horizon of DC.

South of the Mason Dixon line doesn’t insinuate that friendless is prepackaged and delivered upon birth. There is the distinct possibility that in the small towns of Southern Culture there is a young man writing of his exterior. He forces the smiles and handshakes in order to fit in, for he lacks the ability to be what he truly is…a loner.

Associating location and proximity to personaility is a disservice to all those who fail to fit the mold. I can freely accept that not everyone is willing to shed their soul at the Wal-Mart in town and not everyone is a cold hearted robot. Joe Plumber may posses the same uncertaintiy in people as does Charlie Corporate. To distill human emotions to such buckets is a disgusting practice in what amounts to fallacy. The complexity of the human eye is nowhere near comperative to the complexity of the human emotion.

Oscar only whines when he is wanting to go play outside with another dog or he is upset. Luckily he is a pretty happy dog and does neither with any sort of regularity. Today as I typed away on the computer I heard a whining noise from the other room. I gave it sometime considering it would probably pass. A few minutes into the code I hear it still. Sheesh Oscar!

Remind me to fix the screen in my door as it is now a secret path way for cute little puppies. I walk into the kitchen to find Oscar and a little beagle puppy playing around the floor. Heart+puppy=melt. I have such a soft spot for baby anything. I look out the door and see Mom trailing the back end of the Mini. They both look too healthy to be strays so I stand outside and listen for the screams of children looking for their pals. No sirens or anything else.

I drop some food in a make shift Cool Whip bowl (why did I have a Cool Whip bowl?) and some water in the Tupperware near it. They eat like there is no tomorrow and I gather they are lost. I sit down on the stairs contemplating what to do and Oscar comes up near me. He props up on my shoulder and licks my cheek.

“Sorry boy, I can hardly give you the attention you deserve.” With that I top off the Cool Whip bowl and head inside. Oscar seems okay with my course of action and finds his spot on the couch. I wish I had the time and space for the both of them. As I prepared for the Sabbath I did the scan around the house, peeking from the corner of window sills searching for my travelers. Nothing.

Good luck to the beagle family, hope they find a family here soon.

I wonder if the dog knows,
That the world is falling apart,
His ears once graced two owners,
Now we are down to just one heart,

I wonder if he knows that soon,
He will be no longer mine,
Along with the car and house,
I will have to fall in line,

It isn’t the possessions,
That mean a single thing,
No for me its the songs to you,
The ones I will no longer sing,

For me its the evening walks,
Together hand in hand,
For me its the phone calls,
Time passing like wind blown sand,

Now the phone calls are less easy,
And the time is very short,
Like the sailor on his voyage,
In and out of port,

I have sat back and watched it,
You have slowly self destruct,
A hundred miles an hour forward,
Quickly running out of luck,

The times I have sacrificed,
You throw back in my face,
Tell me it was my decision,
Pretend it wasn’t part of your case,

I don’t know what to tell you,
I sit and take the punishment,
Here I sit 10000 miles away,
Alone in this one man stint,

Tonight once again I will pray,
For you and I both,
That maybe we can together,
Remember that sacred oath,

I can’t fight for us both,
When you watch me fight alone,
Your words are like sharp daggers,
And your heart solid stone,

Love come back to me,
My arms are opened wide,
I am ready for us to make it,
Ready for pain to subside,

This maybe a hopeless act,
Your mind may already be there,
I guess I will sit here alone,
Your pictures and letters to tear,

I have cried too much for a man,
But will surely cry more tears,
Never would I have imagined,
This would be my worse fear,

Sleep easy tonight my love,
For the day will soon be new,
If only the sun would shine here,
And my wakeup would be to you,
