I was really excited to have SSH on the AppleTV…why? No Clue. I am a geek. I use my Logitech remote for my roomba. This is simply something I do. Here is the steps to get the Patchstick working with 1.1 Firmware.
1. Find the patchstick torrent of the original version or create your own. I will not tell you where to find the torrent.
2. Download the AppleTV 1.1 DMG: Click Here!
3. cp /Volumes/OSBoot/usr/standalone/i386/boot.efi /Volumes/Patchstick
4. Place the USB Drive into the AppleTV USB port and yank the power button
5. Press and Hold Volume Down + Menu
6. Kernel boot message will appear and at the bottom you will see SSH and Perian installed
7. Yank the power cable and enjoy
I do a lot of online shipping. I love UPS and FEDEX tracking via Google (Thanks for being able to just to type into Search Google Friends) and watching the box trek across America. My most recent tracking adventure was a Sony TXN17p from OfficeDepot.com. I sat and waited patiently, working from home to ensure my 2000 dollar laptop didn’t sit on the door of an apartment complex. It drove me crazy. This comic from xkcd.com sums it up.
BTW: OfficeDepot.com SUCKS! Their 3 day shipping turned into 7. Never order from there.
I purchased the generic GPT-801 bluetooth GPS after being put-off by the high price of others. Basically the device works. It does everything a bluetooth GPS should do. The GPS charges via mini USB and uses standard Nokia cell phone batteries. Battery life is good at about 6 hours. This is a moot point because the device came with a car charger. So lets compare - 50 bucks got me the car charger, wall charger, pc charger, nokia battery, and the GPS. The other companies…up the creek!
