Change your device alias in Open Firmware

If you happen to have a G4 Cube or another system with a MCE upgraded superdrive, you have the issue of dealing with the Master/Slave mappings. You loose the capability to hold the “C” and boot cdrom. Why? Well Open Firmware detects cd as your hard drive. Here is how you can change that function:

  1. Hold Command+Option+O+F
  2. devalias
  3. See what is listed as hd and cd and write those down
  4. devalias cd device-path
  5. Replace device-path to what is listed after hd from the devalias command
  6. boot cd with a bootable CD to verify

This is great! Look at it go! How do we make it permanent:

  1. Hold Command+Option+O+F
  2. devalias
  3. See what is listed as hd and cd and write those down
  4. nvalias cd device-path
  5. mac-boot

I hate Liberals controlling my life!

Would You Drive 55?

Nothing makes my blood boil more than when the crazy liberals try to put me down, control my life and do other things that take away my liberties. That is why when I read this article and found out that the govt. is trying to bring the speed limit back down to 55 I freaked out. Read this crazy quote:

Senator John Warner (R-VA) - elected in 1978 - recently expressed interest in the idea of a national speed limit to conserve gasoline.

Wait a minute, I double back in disgust! There is an R in that title. The party that stands for less government and taxes is in the lead here. This simply reenforces my feelings that no matter the R or the D, all the same…

The iPhone saga continues

AT&T Customer for 5 years or more — Check

AT&T Stock Holder — Check

Original iPhone Owner — Check

AT&T Business Enterprise Customer — Check

What does all that buy you? A big fat cup of nothing. While in DC for business I did the unthinkable and waited outside of an Apple Store to buy an iPhone 3G. The line was wrapped around the front of the store and I doubted my chances of being afforded the “privilege” of purchasing a phone. It was my lucky day as many left the line after being informed that only the white edition was in stock. The Apple Employee wandered towards me armed with his Wireless Symbol Palm computer to verify if I was eligible. After a few missteps inputting information (there is no backspace on the device) we were off. Turns out I am not eligible to purchase a new iPhone from Apple. Why you might ask yourself? I am a business user…soak on that for a minute. I am a business user and therefore am relegated to the second class HELL HOLE that is AT&T Stores. After waiting in line I was left speechless. Here is the background as to why:

Basically I give up. I do not want the damn phone anymore. I am looking at other options.

6am to DC

I don’t care how often I take this flight, 330 rolls around quick. The world is eerily quiet this early.
